How it all Started: The Story of JD Customs USA

JD Customs USA was originally started by Jon in 2015, but it wasn't anything like the JD Customs USA you know today. Jon started out by powder coating custom Yeti cups and made over 630+ custom cups for customers in 2016, which helped fund the transition into car parts. If you scroll to the very beginning of our Instagram page (@JD_Customs_USA), you'll see a few posts showing some of the Yeti cups that he made.

On September 7th, 2015 Jon purchased his 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX MR, which started to generate an interest in custom car parts that nobody else made, or parts that could be made better for a more affordable price. After making his first ignition system for his own Evo, he realized there was a market for more affordable ignition systems and began to sell them online and locally to other Evo owners. In 2018 Jon started offering titanium hardware for ignition systems and the demand for other titanium parts and hardware continued to grow. At this time Jon was still the only employee of JD Customs USA and continued to run it as a side job.

The business continued to grow with the long hours Jon put in while still working a full time 9-5 job. He would get home from work at 5:00 and immediately start knocking out orders for customers. This continued until April 1st 2019 when Jon was finally able to support himself with a full-time focus on JD Customs USA.

When COVID-19 hit in January of 2020, Jon was expecting things to slow down and started to worry about the future of the business, but with the stimulus checks coming in and people sitting at home with nothing to do but work on their cars, the business saw a huge spike in sales and Jon could no longer handle it all himself. In April of 2020 Jon hired his first official employee, Paul Allan.

Fast forward to 2023 - We've grown to seven full-time employees, which are an essential part of the growing business. We now offer our own line of titanium and carbon fiber parts, as well as custom titanium hardware, badges, logos, and thousands of other products from top name brand companies in the industry. Our JDC Ignition Systems are among the best selling and performing kits on the market today and continue to be one of our top selling products.

JDC has partnered with the biggest distributors and top performance brands in the country and we’re constantly adding new brands and products to our ever-expanding website. After two long years of construction, the new shop is finally complete and we're enjoying the extra space! None of this would have ever been possible if it weren’t for the support from amazing customers and the initial years of nonstop grinding by Jon to convert his passion into a sustainable career for himself and the entire JDC team.

Now that you've heard how the business started off, it's time to meet the JDC crew!

Paul Allan

Hey, I’m Paul Allan, no, not the American Psycho... I was the first official employee at JD Customs USA (other than Jon of course). I started my job here in April of 2020. I was originally hired to make wire harnesses and put together ignition systems, but after attempting to make the one - and only one I have ever made with the company, I took to helping with titanium finishing and coloring. After just a few weeks of polishing and shadowing Jon through the coloring process, I quickly picked up on the process that Jon had worked for over a year to master. At first it was a little rough, but with all things, consistency is key, and in no time I had taken over as the titanium anodizing guy. As the business continued to grow, so did the need for more help in other departments, such as customer service. I was happy to take on the extra responsibility and worked my way into the position I’m in now. I am now the General/Shop Manager and second in command, taking care of the customer service side of things and processing orders. I drive a 2010 bagged Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T, which can be found at our booth at the shows we attend. I’m excited to be a big part of such a fast growing company that truly cares about their customers and employees and I can’t wait to see what the future holds with JD Customs USA!

Daniel

Hey! My name is Daniel Morris. I’m a 22-year-old automotive photographer/Videographer located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This will be my second year of shooting and I’ve loved every moment of it. In addition to being the Marketing Manager for JD customs USA, I’m a photographer for Stance Auto Magazine, and media for Battlegang.
I’m stoked to be a part of the growing JDC team and further my craft along the way. My photography account is real_visuals on Instagram and Facebook. Feel free to message me about a shoot/edit, an event I might be attending or just to talk about photography! If you would like to submit your car to be posted on our instagram, or site email me media@jdcustomsusa.com.

Morgan

Hi. I’m Morgan, and I started working here in August 2020 after bugging Paul to give Jon my resume. I was working at a local art museum and was tired of looking at the same boring pictures on a daily basis. I knew Jon and Paul from the local car scene which we were all a part of. I was hired to be part time, but I quickly worked my way into a full time position taking care of all wiring related JDC products, such as ignition systems. Since then I have continued to learn and improve as much as possible within the business. My daily is a 96 Volvo 850 Turbo, but I also have a 78 El Camino that is the project rocket. It’s great to be a part of the team and I’m excited to see what the future holds for us.

Reno

My name is Reno France and I’m one of your titanium specialists at JD Customs USA. I started out as an extra help, polishing and cleaning titanium, while Paul would color and Jack packed up orders. As we continued to become more busy with each week that I was here, Paul saw the need for more help with anodizing titanium and decided to train me on the whole process. I’m now the main guy that oversees the coloring of all titanium orders. I knew all of the guys from the local car scene as well, which is what got my foot in the door. I got a degree in automotive technology at Chattanooga State in 2020 and went on to work at Toyota for about a year until I landed my dream job at JD Customs USA. In my spare time I like to work on my MazdaSpeed3 and hangout with the boys at car shows. I’m anxious to finally get moved into our new facility when it’s finished so we can keep the titanium coming!

Dakota

What's good, my name's Dakota. I met Jon and Paul at Slammedenuff Nashville in April 2021, which was the weekend after losing my previous job. I talked with Jon and Paul and expressed interest in a position if possible. That following Monday I was in the shop getting put to work and have continued to learn more and more. I am also part of the titanium team, helping prep orders for coloring and packing. When it's not broken, I daily a 2008 bmw e90 335 or my '84 e30 318i, so I'm the Euro guy of the company along with being addicted to 2 wheels. I’m glad to be part of the team!
